Care experienced young people took the opportunity to enjoy a fun-filled day of activities at Bridlington Beach.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council held the beach day for care leavers aged 16-25, children in care aged 16-18 and separated migrant children.
Young people took part in ball games, a swim in the sea, chilled out together at the chalet and had food on the beach.
The beach day is part of a programme of activities taking place across the year to support young people, as they move into independent living.
Councillor Victoria Aitken, Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education said: “It’s great that so many of our young people have enjoyed their day at Bridlington Beach, with rounders, football and relaxing in the sun. It’s a chance for them to engage with their support workers in a different, more relaxed environment, which has lots of benefits for interactions between them. It’s also a fantastic day for young people to enjoy time with their peers and build connections.
“When young people leave local authority care we ensure they continue to be supported, and events like this are a key part of the support to ensure a smooth transition from care to adulthood.”
The council continues to support care leavers with studying and finding work, accommodation, finances, health and wellbeing and building relationships and participation in the local community.
